Using the Java plugin in Firefox

#############################

See https://ubuntuincident.wordpress.com/2010/10/28/java-plugin-for-firefox/.

Problem

I don't like that Ubuntu is always late with the latest updates of Firefox. For instance, FF 3.6 came already out but it's still not in the official repository. Because of this I removed the FF 3.5 package and installed version 3.6 manually. It was all good until I wanted to use the Java plugin… I tried every combination but I couldn't make it work.

Solution

I had to put back the official 3.5 version from the Ubuntu repository. Now Java works fine. Fortunately, I could reuse my old 3.6 profile, I didn't have to restore everything from scratch.
