XML editor

#############################

Question

Do you know a good cross-platform XML editor? For free, if possible.

Answer

The best one in my opinion is the oXygen XML editor. You can ask for a registration number for free and then you can use the software for 30 days. If the time is up, ask another number…

Use case

I started to learn portlet programming with Liferay recently. I edited the file portlet.xml but I got an error during the compilation. Strangely, the XML file seemed to be OK. I opened it with oXygen and this editor validated the XML against the DTD automatically, so it indicated that some tags are not in a good order. Damn, I wouldn't have found this error by myself. So for me this editor was very helpful.
