Activate Sound on Dell Vostro 2510

Problem

I installed Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) beta on a Dell Vostro 2510 laptop. Everything worked fine except the sound. I didn't hear anything, though the system did recognize the sound card. What da hell?

Solution

Edit the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and add the following line:

options snd-hda-intel model=dell
