The easy waysudo update-manager -d The slightly harder wayFirst, put your Ubuntu in a good shape: sudo dpkg --configure -a sudo apt-get -f install sudo apt-get --fix-missing install sudo apt-get clean sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get dist-upgrade sudo apt-get clean sudo apt-get autoremove The previous commands in one line: sudo dpkg --configure -a && sudo apt-get -f install && sudo apt-get --fix-missing install && sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade && sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt-get autoremove Then make a copy of /etc/apt/sources.list and modify the old distribution name to the new one everywhere.
