Question

How to tell mc what program to use for opening a file with a given extension?

Answer

F9 → Command → Edit extension file. However, it'll try to edit the global /etc/mc/mc.ext file, which is read-only unless you are root. So make a local copy of this file in ~/.mc, and put a symbolic reference on it under the name bindings. That is:
