Convert Music

#############################

Question

How to convert music to a different format?

Answer

Use SoundConverter.

"It reads anything the GStreamer library can read (Ogg Vorbis, AAC, MP3, FLAC, WAV, AVI, MPEG, MOV, M4A, AC3, DTS, ALAC, MPC, Shorten, APE, WavPack, SID, etc…), and writes WAV, FLAC, MP3, AAC, and Ogg Vorbis files."

Notes

I had problems with APE files since SoundConverter didn't recognize them. I found the following workaround:

  • Load APE files in Audacious (Audacious can play this format).
  • Go to PreferencesAudio, and for the output plugin choose the FileWriter plugin.
  • Play the songs. Audacious will convert them to WAV files.
  • Use SoundConverter on the WAV files.
