Widget Layer

Question

I want widget layer on my desktop. Should I buy a Macintosh now?

Answer

No way! Follow these steps instead:

start Compiz config (Advanced Desktop Effects Settings) [sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager]
enable widget layer in the Desktop section
install the package screenlets [sudo apt-get install screenlets]
start Screenlets under Preferences
Add a widget and in its options set Treat as Widget. Don't forget to set Auto start on login.

By default, the widget layer is activated with F9.
