Activate some additional consoles

Problem

Some consoles are not activated by default (e.g. tty8-tty11). How to get them?

Solution

Edit the file /etc/inittab . Mine looks like this:

1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty -f /etc/issue.linuxlogo 38400 tty1
2:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty2
3:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty3
4:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty4
5:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty5
6:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty6
# 7 is for X
# 8 is for another X if needed
9:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty9
10:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty10
11:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty11
# 12 is for log if needed
