Goals:

• as fast as C
• as expressive as Python
• as extensible as Lisp (the macro system was inspired by Lisp)

Nim is a systems programming language. What does it mean?

• we have good control over the memory layout
• pointer ↔ integer conversion is possible (in both directions). It's necessary for the implementation of the garbage collector.
