As you could guess, my name is Sándor Baran. I was born on 25.02.1973 in Ungvár, Ukraine (at that time Soviet Union). At that region over 150 000 hungarian live and my nationality and mother tongue is also Hungarian. I got my university degree in 1995 at the Kossuth Lajos University, Debrecen, Hungary. At the moment I work in the Faculty of Informatics of the University of Debrecen at the Dept. of Probability Theory and Applied Mathematics. My main research field is statistics. I defended my PhD thesis in 2001, while in 2005 I succesfully defended my habilitation thesis, too.

I have been married since 1996, my wife, Ágnes, is also a mathematician. Our older daughter Zsuzsanna was born on 16.01.1999, while the younger Júlia on 06.12.2009.

My hobbies are photography, travelling, motorbikes, aircraft maquetting and everything connected with flying and shipping.
